主要成果
戴尅戎院士是在国内外均有很大影响的骨科专家，长期致力于骨科临床和基础研究，特别重视医学与工程科学、生物科学的交叉研究。最早在国内系统开展骨科生物力学和力学生物学研究，对不同力学环境下骨的生物学与力学性能变化进行了系统研究，包括内植物对骨的应力遮挡效应、力学环境与骨关节炎、骨质疏松症的相关性、力学环境对骨移植的影响等。在国际上首先将形状记忆合金制品用于人体内部，研制成功形状记忆加压骑缝钉，用于骨折内固定，已在全国340多家医院3千余例骨折病人中应用。以后相继发明形状记忆双杯髋假体、形状记忆锯齿臂环抱内固定器，并在国际上首先开发成功兼具机械和生物学固定作用的骨粒骨水泥，广泛用于人工关节固定和肿瘤切除后的骨缺损修复。又与上海交通大学长期合作，在国内最早将CAD/CAM、敏捷制造和快速原形技术用于定制型人工关节，创造性提出优先区定制概念并取得国家专利。目前计算机辅助定制型人工髋、膝、肩、骨盆、长骨已在全国许多医院推广应用。继而建立了上海交大-二医大医学内植物工程联合研究所并任联合所长，形成了生产实体，为医工结合的深层次发展和科研成果产业化走出新路。
戴尅戎院士在骨质疏松症的研究方面注重对骨结构的分析，创立了对骨小梁微构筑方式的定量评定方法并应用于临床病人的诊断。对骨质疏松性骨折发生机理和骨折愈合方式进行了系列研究，为临床上老年骨折的治疗提供了指导意见。近年来又开展了干细胞移植和基因治疗促进骨软骨再生的系列研究，在成体干细胞的诱导分化研究、细胞载体复合体系的建立等方面取得了有自主知识产权的成果。
戴尅戎教授由于其学术成就，在海内外具有很高知名度。特别是近几年，他相继进入多个知名国际学术组织的领导机构，担任世界华裔骨科学会会长、亚洲太平洋人工关节学会会长和知名度极高的国际内固定学会（AO/ASIF）理事。是美国密西西比大学医学院客座教授和2本国际学术刊物及美国医学会杂志（JAMA）中文版的编委。是香港科学研究资助委员会和香港大学海外科学技术评审委员，并被授予97年香港杰出中国访问学人。2000年他当选为美国骨科学会通信会员，该学会已有一百多年历史，现在世界各地有通信会员43人，戴教授为该会唯一的中国会员。2002年经法国外交部与卫生部批准，被授予法国地中海大学荣誉博士，是获得该殊荣的唯一亚洲人。2004年获何梁何利基金科学与技术奖。
