学术带头人：田波 院士
1954年毕业于北京农业大学。同年，分配到中国科学院微生物研究所工作。分别于1962年、1979年、1986年晋升为助理研究员、副研究员和研究员，博导。武汉大学生命科学院教授。1991年被选为中国科学院院士。第八、九届全国政协委员。
田波教授任中国科学院微生物研究所病毒学研究室主任、武汉大学现代病毒研究中心主任、武汉大学艾滋病研究中心主任、病毒学国家重点实验室学术委员会荣誉主任。《中国病毒学》荣誉主编，《中国兽医科学》科学顾问。美国病毒学会高级会员，印度病毒学会终身会员，国际类病毒工作委员会委员。
田波教授早期主要从事植物病毒和抗病毒转基因植物研究，首次成功地应用病毒卫星RNA防治病毒病获得成功并转让给日本。证明锤头状核酶可完全抑制核内复制的类病毒在转基因马铃薯中的复制。近十多年来主要从事HBV等病毒T-细胞分子免疫及囊膜病毒融合机制和融合抑制剂的研究。主要科研工作经验包括：病毒（涉及某些植物、兽医和医学病毒）和亚病毒（涉及某些卫星病毒、类病毒和朊病毒）的研究；抗病毒和类病毒转基因植物的研究；病毒T-细胞免疫的研究；控制病毒病的新策略及病毒学发展方向的探讨。在国际国内重要学术刊物，包括Lancet、PNAS、JI、JMV等发表学术论文160余篇。编著8部，获授权专利3项，获奖4项。
