邹国林教授，1965年9月-1970年7月在武汉大学生物系微生物学专业本科学习；1979年2月-1980年9月在武汉大学生物系生物化学专业进修；1980年9月-1983年7月在武汉大学生物系生物化学专业作研究生，获理学硕士学位；1991年8月-1992年9月任美国西东大学化学系访问学者；
从1983年7月至今，在武汉大学生物系（现生命科学学院）任教，历任助教（1983－1985）、讲师（1985－1991）、副教授（1991－1996）、教授（1996至今）、硕士生导师（1993－1998）、博士生导师（1998至今）；历任生物化学教研室副主任（1997－1998）、生物系副系主任（1988－1993）、生物化学与生物物理学系副系主任（1993－1996）、系主任（1996－1998）、生命科学学院副院长（1997－2004）。现任应用生物化学与分子生物学实验室主任、湖北省中小企业共性技术生物应用研发推广中心主任。
兼任武汉市人大常委、科教文卫委员会委员，民建湖北省委会副主委、民建武汉市委会主委、民建中央科教委员会委员，湖北省暨武汉生物物理学会理事长，湖北省实验动物学会理事，国家教育部中小学教材审定委员会委员，湖北省政府第二届科技奖励评审委员会委员，工业微生物湖北省重点实验室学术委员会主任（湖北工业大学）、中药资源与植物化学湖北省重点实验室学术委员会委员（湖北中医学院）、天然产物研究与应用湖北省重点实验室学术委员会委员（三峡大学）等。
一直从事本科生和研究生教学工作，主讲多门课程；已培养博士后、博士生和硕士生30多人，目前正在培养的博士后、博士生和硕士生20多人。自1988年至2004年4月，一直在院系岗位上任领导职务，主要负责科研工作。已承担国家、省部级及市科研项目20多项，在国内外学术刊物上已发表研究论文和综述文章280多篇，出版两部教材，获得过国家教育部科技进步奖等多项奖励，是享受国务院政府特殊津贴的有特殊贡献的专家。
主要从事于应用基础和应用研究。主要研究方向有三个：一是酶与催化，既研究天然酶，又研究模拟酶，研究它们的结构与功能的关系、催化机理、分子改造；二是金属螯合物（重点是博莱霉素、阿霉素等抗癌抗生素以及金属卟啉、酞菁、菲咯啉等）与自由基，这些金属螯合物与氧自由基密切相关，研究它们的分子药理，模拟酶性质及自由基理论；三是药学，重点研究抗病毒、抗菌、抗癌药物，包括中草药有效成分的发现、分离与表征，抗病毒基因工程疫苗的研制，药用酶的基因工程改造等。这3个研究方向之间有许多的交叉与渗透。涉及的研究方法除生物化学，分子生物学外，还经常用到有机合成、仪器分析、细胞培养、微生物培养、生物信息学、自由基生物学、药理学等方法。
